Name:Wantante Samuel Sam.png

Tribe: Muganda

DOB: 18/9/1990

School/Level: Busoga Junior - S1

His Story:

Sam is from Mukono District but was left an orphan when both his parents died of HIV/AIDS. His mother was a prostitute in the Kampala slums. He was rejected and abandoned by family members after the death of his parents. He had to go on the streets of Jinja when he was six years old. He was a street boy for six years before being brought to El-Shadai family home. While on the street he collected scraps to eat and would often go to places frequented by tourists to beg for some money. Sam met Stephen Wante and desired to leave street life so that he could return to school. He was accepted by Stephen Wante who brought him to El-Shadai family home.

Interests and Hobbies

Like most boys his age, Sam loves football, but his true talent lies in art. He is very skilled in drawing and has a creative mind. He also loves singing and wants to start a choir.

Future Plans...

In the future, he hopes to become a pastor or a person who can help others in many ways. And he wants to sing. He also has visions of becoming a judge.

Notes:

Sam used to be known as the ‘Mayor’ of the streets because he was there for so long. When asked if he was happy to be in El-Shadai Family, Sam said this: “Yes, because I have already changed my character. I used to be among bad boys in town-people know me-I would steal a lot. God has helped me, and now I am even a leader in the choir.”

Child Financial Needs:

The Ugandan government does not offer free education at any level. Before coming to the home, many of the children had been forced to drop out of school because they were unable to pay the fees. El-Shadai Family Foster Home believes that all children should have an education and a safe, loving environment where all of their basic needs are met.

School Fee Breakdown

Sam is currently attending day school but we hope a sponsor will be found and will give him an opportunity to attend boarding.

Current Sponsorship Status: Sam's education is currently sponsored by Sharone Lizotte. Sam would love to attendboarding school (this would require an additional $235.29 yearly).
