His story...
Ronald was a street child until he met Uncle Stephen in 2000. He was placed in an orphanage but because of his past he was discriminated against and ended up leaving. He sought out Stephen on many occasions for counseling and support. His mother left him with his father who later married again. Ronald's new stepmother wanted him out of the house and abused and tortured him. He ran away from home and lived on the streets for six years before meeting Stephen. He was a very talented student and athlete. Because of his skills he was allowed to go to school during the day. At night he would return to the street. He has finished his last year of secondary school and wants to go to college or university but because he has not paid his school fees for the previous year, he cannot. He has moved to western Uganda with his mother who has remarried. He is discriminated against and unwelcome in his own family.
Notes:
Ronald is still struggling with his identity. He feels he does not belong anywhere. After he was tortured by his stepmother he developed a negative attitude towards women. Through counseling he has improved with this but is still having a difficult time dealing with his future and family relations. Through the efforts of Uncle Stephen he has reconciled with his mother, but similar efforts with his father have failed.
Child Financial Needs:
The Ugandan government does not offer free education at any level. Before coming to the home, many of the children had been forced to drop out of school because they were unable to pay the fees. El-Shadai Family Foster Home believes that all children should have an education and a safe, loving environment where all of their basic needs are met.
